A big thank you to Karen Broemmelisk who posted her photo of this adorable Aussiedoodle on the Facebook group, Photos for Artists.  The photo had a sort of chiaroscuro effect with the strong darks and lights and was fun to paint.

Surf Triptych  6 x 18

 

I finished the third piece of this 3-part seascape. Each panel is 6 x 6 so together they form a triptych that is 6 x 18. I can picture all three framed together in a "float frame" so they each have a bit of space between them. I am very pleased with the way this came out!

Day 11  2016 30 Paintings in 30 Days

"Surf 1" - 6 x 6 Oil

This is the first of a three-part painting (triptych). I started with the left side section. Overall, the final painting will be 6" high x 18" wide. I plan to frame all three pieces together with just a small space between each panel. I expect to add finishing touches to this piece once I have all three completed.

Still taking a break from pet pictures, this painting is based on a photo I took last summer at Ocean Point, Maine, where the Damariscotta River meets the Atlantic Ocean.

Day 9 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days 2016

"A New Day 2" 6 x 6 Oil

I've gone back to my favorite surface - a RayMar Feather-Lite cotton canvas panel - and what a difference! The paint lays down on the surface and does not slide around as it did on the Cradled Panel. As a result, I was able to complete this painting quickly and feel that it is closer in color to my reference photo. 

Day 8 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days

"A New Day" 10 x 10" Oil

I am taking a break from painting pets with the idea that a sunrise would be fast and easy. Not so! This 10 x 10 is on a surface I have never used - a cradled panel.  My previous paintings have been on Raymar Feather Lite Panels with a medium tooth cotton canvas surface. The cradled panel is very smooth so the paint tends to slide around, especially when painting alla prima. Tomorrow's painting will be the same scene, but painted on a 6 x 6 Raymar panel so I expect it to go much faster.
